Student journey tool


This student journey tool has been produced for new students to check what they need to do in order to arrange immigration matters.
The results of this form are a mere check and not the official results.
As soon as you have been (provisionally/conditionally) admitted you will receive the instructions for submitting of your documents.
The ISD will inform you in due course, usually 2 months before the deadline.
Important: The advice is not legally binding and does not represent a legal statement to be presented to the University of Groningen.

Valid EU/Schengen residence permit

You currently have a residence permit from a Schengen country. With this residence permit you can travel to the Netherlands. Please make sure your residence permit is valid at the moment your study programme starts.

If it is valid, you do not need to apply for an mvv to travel to the Netherlands, only for a Dutch residence permit. 

If the residence permit is no longer valid, you will have to apply for an mvv and residence permit.

EU residence permit

Your residence permit card is not from a Schengen country, this means that on the basis of your answers, you will have to apply for an MVV (entry visa) and a residence permit.

Valid Dutch residence permit with the purpose of Study

You will - most probably - have to apply for a Change of Guarantor.

Please follow the information in the Immigration procedure form for the Immigration Service Desk to verify.

Valid Dutch residence permit

You will - most probably - have to apply for a Change of Purpose.

Admission status - conditional

Please be aware that we can only apply for your visa and residence permit if you are (provisionally) admitted. 

You can however, send us your documents in advance and let us know when you have been (provisionally) admitted, so we can start the application at the IND.
 
 

Finances

> Sufficient funds

Sufficient funds are a requirement from the IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service). For the application for a residence permit you have to show you have sufficient money to live and study in the Netherlands. ​

The amount you need to have, is called study norm. The study norm is currently EUR 1,000.00 per month.The amount does not include tuition fees.

Tuition fees are subject to change depending on Dutch legislation and University of Groningen policies and no rights can be derived from the information on this page.

Tuition fees need to be paid to the Central Student Administration (SIA). Once you are enrolled, you will receive information on how to pay the fees and to which account.

Documents to submit

Your passport: 

- full colour copy
- all pages with stamps and visas
- details of passport holder
- signature page
 

Antecedents certificate

- With this certificate you provide information on your criminal record
- You have to state whether you have a criminal record or not
- You will receive a link to this form in the immigration package

Transfer receipt

- please refer to the immigration package for the transfer details
- the amount needs to be transferred before the application form is send

Residence permit (front and back)

Scholarship letter

- please make sure you meet the criteria on our website
 

Loan letter

- please make sure you meet the criteria on our website
- add your terms and conditions to the scan

Copy of the results (optional)
