1. Provide a brief description of the project

2. Objectives
Describe the objective of the Public Engagement project and how it aligns with our vision of Public Engagement. For example, the objective may be to solve a problem, and/or improve an existing situation.

3. Target group
Explain what audience you hope to reach and why specifically this target group. Also explain how you will reach this audience and how you will ensure that this audience participates in the activity. How will you encourage your target group to participate in the Public Engagement activity?

4. Activity
Describe the activity that will achieve the objective of the Public Engagement project very carefully. For example, you could envisage sharing, consulting, responding, creating, or applying knowledge together.

Explain how the activity or activities are related to science in general or to scientific research.

Also explain which internal and/or external partner or partners are involved in the project and in what way.

5. Mutual benefit
Indicate how each party benefits from the joint activity.

Give a clear motivation for the activity presented, and describe what mutual benefit this activity would or could bring. In case it is different from the target group outlined above, which target group do you want to involve, and how can this specific target group help you achieve the goals mentioned earlier? In other words, what is in it for you? These could be benefits for your research or that of your colleagues, for your own development, for teaching, for new forms of cooperation, etc.

Saying an activity is 'for everyone' is not specific enough. Try to make it as clear as possible who you are hoping to reach. For example, you could include target group age, background, interests, education level, and so on.

6. Budgeting for projects
Provide a realistic project budget that clearly shows how the money requested from the fund for encouraging Public Engagement will be spent.

7. Evaluation
Describe how you will determine whether your activity has had impact. When is the project successful and how will you measure that?

8. Do you consent to the public sharing of this proposal?
Like NWO with the Open Science Fund, we have a transparency clause. We publish the proposals for which we receive permission from the researchers. That way, we hope that proposals that could not be accepted will find opportunities for implementation and cooperation elsewhere.
