Procedure enrolment master courses for students planning to start the Master in September

The Master IR starts in the September semester with these four courses (30 ECTS)

  • Advanced Theory and Research Practice in International Relations (5 ECTS)
  • Capita (compulsory track-specific) (5 ECTS)
  • Research Seminar 1 (compulsory track-specific) (10 ECTS)
  • Research Seminar 2 (10 ECTS)

Research Seminars

You will have to submit your preference for the two Research Seminars yourself from:
18 August 12.00 hrs (Noon) until 29 August 2025 23.59 hrs (Midnight). The link to the Preference Form for Research Seminars will be posted on this page.

*In the form you will be asked to indicate both a first and a second choice per research seminar. Allocation to the research seminars will be done by the Department: we will do the utmost to place you in your preferred research seminars, but because of scheduling and overall availability of places in the research seminars we cannot guarantee you will be placed in your first choice.
**After you submit your preference, you will be registered in Progress for your Research Seminars before 5 September. Research Seminars start in the week of 8 September.

When you submit this form, you will be enrolled by us for the courses (if selected): ATRPinIR, Capita, and Master Thesis in Progress.
For students of East Asian Studies who have indicated an Exchange Semester:
  • you should have your courses approved by the Board of Examiners (boex.arts@rug.nl)
  • enrol for your courses at the host university.

The Professionalisation Elective is made up of a series of thematic seminar groups. Students choose either the Career Seminar, focused on questions of governance, or any 2 of the other themes:

Working in and with culture in international relations
 
  • Please note: you are not allowed to indicate the same course more than once.
  • After you submit this form you will be enrolled for the Professionalization Elective before 19 September 2025.
You will be registered in Progress for the Placement when you submit this form.
Please note: We will organise a second enrolment option for the Professionalization Electives in the second half of October: if you have not found a placement by then, you still have the option to apply for Professionalization Elective in stead.
